With more than 20 years of experience in cosmetology and beauty instruction, Mr. Gregory owns and operates Charles Gregory Beauty Salon, an upscale, full-service salon and Charles Gregory Makeup Academy, a school designed to train Beginning and Advanced makeup artists to be professionals. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Gregory was inspired at an early age by his mother, who was also a hair stylist and a beauty salon & spa owner. After graduating from the Arnold International University of Cosmetology, he became a popular stylist at Valencia's Beauty Salon. From there, he managed Talk of the Town Beauty Salon & Spa, and for four years owned and was the featured stylist at Cutting Attractions beauty salon. Mr. Gregory became the proprietor of Visions, a boutique specializing in women's apparel. He has also taught cosmetology at Talk of the Town School of cosmetology and American Beauty College. He is sought after for educational seminars and trade shows such as: Bronner Brothers, Premiere Beauty Show, World's Hair Expo, Black and Hispanic Beauty Show, the International Beauty Show and the National Beauty Culturalist League.
Mr. Gregory presently is a member of IASTE 706 and 798 unions for makeup artists and hair stylists in film and television and is Department Head of Hair for numerous Tyler Perry Productions. Charles designed the signature wig look for Tyler Perry’s character Madea, show casing his expert skill in custom lace front wigs. He has been head hair stylist on “Meet the Browns”, “Families That Prey” “Madea Goes to Jail”, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself and Why did I get Married Too Gregory also styled hair for the CBS movie 'Having Our Say' about the Delaney Sisters ,'BoyCott' for HBO Productions, 'Remember The Titans' starring Denzel Washington, 'Drumline' for 20th Century Fox , and recently was Hair Department Head of the Emmy nominated, HBO Production of 'Lackawana Blues" Starring Epatha Merkerson, and Terrence Howard which he received and Emmy Nomination for best hairstyles in a movie for television.
Gregory's impressive client list includes actresses Halle Berry, Tasha Smith, Jill Scott, Taraji Hinson, Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Regina Taylor, Raven Simone, Ruby Dee, Elise Neal, Diane Caroll and Suzanne Douglas, actors Terrence Howard, Eric Lasalle, Laurence Fishburne, Blair Underwood, Mario Van Pebbles, Ossie Davis, Obba Babtunde, Bill Nunn, Khalil Kain, Andre Brauer, Craig Sheffer, Joe Morton ,Mikelti Williamson, Vondee Curits -Hall, and Ving Rhames, jazz musician George Howard, former Atlanta Braves right fielder David Justice and singers Jennifer Holliday, Escape, Monica, and Blackgirl.
His hair styles and makeup designs have graced the covers of several magazines including "Jet," "Shoptalk," “Sophisticate’s Black Hair Styles and Care Guide." His work has been featured in “American Salon," "Modern Salon," "Studio Magazine," and other leading cosmetology publications.
Mr. Gregory's accomplishments have won him silver and bronze medals in the Oscar D' Elegance ladies hair styling competition in Belgium in 1989 and 1991, respectively. He is an active member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetology Association and the Georgia Hair Stylist and Cosmetology Association, and also holds a position on the Georgia Education Committee. Mr Gregory has also taught at several Cosmetology schools. While teaching hair weaving, cutting, hair styling,hair color and beauty salon sense (how to own and operate a salon). He founded Charles Gregory Makeup Academy where he certified makeup artists to have professional beauty makeup careers.
